First the difficulties on the uphill section, then the recovery, and finally the resounding success in the sprint: it was a day to remember, on Monday, for Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek), who won the success in the second stage of the Tour of Dauphiné 2025, one of the key appointments for the preparation ahead of the Tour de France.

The sprinter from Friuli came out on top in the stage that took the peloton from Prémilhat to Issoire, at the end of a 204.6-kilometer route with several bumps in the heart of the stage, before a long flat section to the finish. Milan beat Britain&#8217s Alfred Wright (Bahrain Victorious) and Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) at the finish line: with the 10″ of bonus he also jumped to the top of the general classification, with the same time as Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) but a better average at the placings level.

“It’s been a crazy stage – Milan himself said, smiling in the press conference -. We believed in the victory and we managed to hit the target. I really have to thank my team, they all supported me: it was a really important aspect to recover and get to the finish line with a chance to play for the victory”.

That launched in Issoire is a very clear message from Jonathan Milan ahead of the Tour de France, which kicks off from Lille on July 5, with a stage that has all the characteristics to end in a sprint: “All of us sprinters know that the first stage is built for a sprint finish, winning it would mean wearing the yellow jersey. That’s the goal, then we will also think about the points classification”.

Boris Becker outspoken about Jannik Sinner-Carlos Alcaraz confrontation.

Although more than twenty-four hours have passed since the Roland Garros final, there are still many who want to have their say on the epic confrontation that saw Carlos Alcaraz beat Jannik Sinner by a whisker after an intense Roland Garros final that lasted 5 hours and 29 minutes. Among them was Boris Becker, who through his social profiles thanked the two young champions for what they showed on Sunday in Paris.

“It’was one of the best Grand Slam finals I have ever had the privilege to commentate – said Becker, now a pundit and second voice for the international version of ‘Eurosport‘ -. The others were the 2008 Wimbledon final (Federer-Nadal), the 2012 Australian Open final (Djokovic-Nadal), the 2019 Wimbledon final (Djokovic-Federer) and the 2020 US Open final (Thiem-Zverev)”.

“The quality, the’intensity and the sheer emotional involvement were incredible – added the’former No. 1 ranking, who at the Slam level missed out on victory, interestingly, only at Roland Garros -. Kudos to Carlos Alcaraz and great respect to Jannik Sinner for delivering a tennis lesson worthy of the history books. The game of tennis is in good hands with these two players”.

The Roland Garros 2025 final was, according to many insiders, one of the most beautiful tennis matches ever. Sinner came close to success in the fourth set, wasting three match points, but he battled on equal terms with Alcaraz until the super tie-break, which decided a match that will forever remain in the memory of fans.

National team, Gianluigi Buffon makes mea culpa and sets new goal

Published

Interviewed by ‘Sky Sport‘ on the sidelines of the 2026 World Cup qualifier match against Moldova in Reggio Emilia, Gianluigi Buffon spoke about Luciano Spalletti’s pre-announced farewell to the national team, not only expressing all his esteem for the coach from Certaldo, but also giving space for a harsh judgment towards himself.

“My task was to stand by the coach and the team, demonstrating that I have skills in this regard– said the head of the Italian national soccer team delegation. Perhaps I haven&#8217t done it well so far: rather than unbalancing myself on the new coach, a matter that will be taken care of by President Gravina, it is right for me to focus on my job”.

“With Spalletti there&#8217s been great transparency, for me he&#8211s a great man,– Buffon added -We met and told each other what we thought, the decision came as a result. From the human point of view, he is a wonderful person, he has shown that even on this difficult occasion. We take this risk, knowing it is the best choice for everyone”.

With Luciano Spalletti at its helm from September 2023, Italy gained a pass for Euro 2024, however, stopping in the round of 16 of the continental event in the face of Switzerland. In the Nations League, on the other hand, the Azzurri made it to the quarterfinals, but were eliminated in the doubleheader last March by Germany.

After the race weekend, the protagonists of the MotoGp season met again on Monday at the MotorLand Aragon circuit for a day of testing: the long timed session rewarded Maverick Viñales, who riding his Red Bull Tech3 team KTM set a best time of 1:45.694, just 6 thousandths ahead of Marco Bezzecchi, on factory Aprilia.

In third position the weekend’s dominator Marc Marquez, who on his factory Ducati did not go beyond a best time 132 thousandths behind his compatriot. Fermin Aldeguer of Team Gresini Racing (+0.264) and Pedro Acosta on KTM Factory (+0.335) close the Top 5. Sixth, and second among Italian riders, is Franco Morbidelli on a Ducati of the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team (+0.625).

Also among the top ten were Fabio Quartararo, seventh on a factory Yamaha (+0.733) and Fabio Di Giannantonio, eighth on his Desmosedici GP-25 from the team founded by Valentino Rossi (+0.818). Ninth position, however, for Pecco Bagnaia: for Marc Marquez’s teammate a best time 835 thousandths slower than the session leader.

Two other Italians on the track: Enea Bastianini, Maverick Viñales’ teammate, still confirms some difficulties riding the KTM and closes with a gap of one second and 411 thousandths, while Lorenzo Savadori, who continues his work as a replacement for Jorge Martin on the Aprilia, got the 18th time, with a delay of 2.086 compared to Viñales.
