From 80″ to 26″: this is the’evolution of the gap between Isaac del Toro and Simon Yates, respectively first and second in the general classification of the Giro d’Italia 2025, after Tuesday’s stage that took the riders from Piazzola sul Brenta to San Valentino, a hamlet of Brentonico. The Massican showed some difficulties, but he does not want to let go of the symbol of supremacy, the pink jersey.

“It&#8217s been a tough day for everyone, real cycling – said the UAE Team Emirates rider at a press conference -. I didn&#8217t have the best legs of my career but that is no excuse. I did what I could, closing totally drained. I hope tomorrow will be better. I want to show the team how much I care about this pink jersey, which is the fruit of everyone”s work.

“I don&#8220t think it&#8220s a matter of confidence, but of awareness in my means– added Del Toro. In the final we and Visma set a good pace. Simon Yates and Carapaz used the steepest section in their favor. When Richard took off I tried not to leave too much ground, but at that point I didn&#8217t have any more. He’s been stronger than me so I have no regrets”.

One of the day&#8217s disappointments was Juan Ayuso, Del Toro&#8217s teammate and, until yesterday, third in the overall: he lost 12 minutes today. “I spoke with Ayuso this morning and he told me he was not feeling well – explained the Mexican -. Falls do damage, and that is why we tried to manage his bad moment on the penultimate climb. It’s been a bad day for him”.

“Now in the standings we are all close, I don&#8217t think there is a favorite, but I think all the top four in the overall can win” finally said Del Toro, narrowing the field of favorites for the final victory to himself, Yates, Carapaz and McGee, the latter being 31″ and 1’31” respectively away from the first position.

Ben Shelton breaks Matteo Gigante’s dream at Roland Garros. After the feat with Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Italian failed to repeat with the U.S., number 13 in the world and in the seeding, who knocked him out in three sets (6-3 6-3 6-4) after two hours and 19 minutes of play.

In the first set, what made the difference was a break, obtained by the American in the fourth game at the fourth useful opportunity (3-1). Shelton concedes crumbs on serve and preserves the lead until the final 6-3 with which he makes the first partial his.

The second set began with a four-game run by the world number 13: Gigante recovered a break disadvantage in the eighth game (3-5) but lost serve again in the next game (3-6), finding himself down two sets.

The third set is the most balanced: it is the service game that rules until the’last game, when the Roman loses his serve after cancelling a match point and thus has to say goodbye to Paris, while Shelton flies to the round of 16.

PSG-Inter, Nicolò Barella jokes about Gianluigi Donnarumma

Published

on

Nicolò Barella spoke at a press conference on the eve of PSG–Inter, the Champions League final, scheduled for Saturday at 9 p.m. at Munich&#8217s Allianz Arena. “We are ready, we are loaded – he began -, with a lot of respect for a very strong team. We deserve a good finish to the season”.

“They have a very strong midfield, as does all of PSG, otherwise they would not be in the Champions final – added the Nerazzurri midfielder -. It is the beating heart, however, as I have always said, our strength lies in the team. We proved it with Barcelona: without a great group and a great team we would not have been able to play a game like that”.

“I have dreamed many times of replaying a match like this – admitted the Inter vice-captain -, it is the dream of every child to play these matches: they are the most difficult, but they leave you with something inside, a great emotion. Last time we played a great game, but the victory did not come. This time we will try to be more careful with the details, the cup is the dream of all of us”.

He then revealed a backstory with Donnarumma: “We spoke yesterday, we talked about everything except soccer. We talked about family, about the national team, with Gigio I have a lot of respect: he is a friend and I respect him like all PSG players. I hope he will be good”.

“If my career was based only on goals it would be uphill… There is no such thing as only goals, if it came tomorrow I would be more than happy. The most important thing for me is to give these guys a hand” concluded Barella.
