Who is Maria Gabriel?

Maria Ivanova Gabriel was the candidate of the first political group in the Bulgarian parliament for the position of Prime Minister. The Bulgarian National Assembly’s rostrum made this clear.

OFFNews reports that GERB leader Boyko Boisov, from the rostrum in the parliament, proposed EU Commissioner Maria Gabriel to be the next prime minister.

Boyko Borisov, yesterday, May 9, 2023 announced that a government will be formed with a nominated prime minister who will be presented by the parliamentary groups. He called the candidate “undisputed”, a person capable of leading the country out the economic crisis and working on the adoption laws for PMV, as well as bringing the country into Schengen and the Eurozone. She was born in Hadjidimovo on May 20, 1978. In 1997, he received his degree from the “Dr. Petar Beron Language High School in Kyustendil. In 2001, he received a Bachelor’s Degree in “Bulgarian & French Philology” from the “Paisii Hilendarski University” in Plovdiv.

He continued his studies at the Institute of Political Sciences, Bordeaux, France. There he studied international politics, history of European Institutions, political sociology and comparative politics. In 2003, he completed his MA in Comparative Politics and International Relations at the Doctoral Academy of Political Sciences in Bordeaux. He was a researcher assistant at the Institute of Political Sciences, Bordeaux, from 2004 to 2008.

She was the coordinator of EPP at the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality of European Parliament from 2012 to 2014.

Maria Gabriel (Nedelcheva’s father) was elected vice-president of EPP Women on October 19, 2012.

In June 2013, she won the MEP of the year award in the category of gender equality.

She was European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society from July 7, 2017 until December 1, 2019 in the Juncker Commission. He then became European commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth within the Von der Leyen Commission.

Initiatives aimed at youth occupy a central place in the extra-parliamentary activities of the party.

According to the EC Website, her responsibilities include:

Assuring rapid agreement and full implementation of the future Horizon Europe program.

Securing investment for cutting-edge research and innovation, including in the framework of the European Innovation Council.

The development of the European Research Area in cooperation with member states.

Ensure that the research priorities are complementary to the economy.

Lead the work of the Commission on the creation a European Education Area (EEE) by 2025.

Promoting excellence, networking and the European Universities Initiative.

Update the digital education plan and raise awareness of misinformation and other online dangers.

Assuring full implementation of the European Agenda for Culture, promoting creative sectors and promoting Creative Europe.

Promoting sport as an inclusive and well-being tool, extending the EU Sports Awards under the slogan #BeInclusive, and the European Week of Sport.

Strengthening international co-operation in the fields of education, science, innovation, and culture.

Maria Gabriel is married and has one child.

She is well-educated and has a wealth of experience working in European institutions. He is well-versed in the workings and procedures of the union and can work hard to pass the laws necessary to receive the Recovery and Resilience Plan funding.

According to informed sources the idea of proposing a young educated woman was conceived by the German party foundations who have experience in Bulgaria and influence within GERB.

The European Commission has announced the results of the 2024 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks call.

The Commission will fund a total of 149 excellent doctoral programmes with €608.6 million to train over 1800 doctoral candidates in and outside academia.

€536.9 million will be awarded to 133 standard Doctoral programmes, to train PhD candidates and develop their skills.

Funding includes also €26 million for 8 Industrial Doctoral programmes to train PhD candidates and develop their skills outside academia, including in industry and business. Doctoral candidates will also benefit from joint industry-academia supervision.

An additional €33 million will be allocated to 8 Joint Doctoral programmes, which promote joint selection, training and supervision leading to joint or multiple doctoral degrees.

The European Research Executive Agency (REA) received 1,417 applications for this call. This means a success rate of 10.6 %.

Close collaboration beyond academia

These doctoral programmes are implemented by international partnerships, involving 9335 organisations in 130 countries in the EU, Horizon Europe associated countries and beyond. 4725 of these are private for-profit entities.

Selected projects are coordinated by organisations in 18 countries.
