Europe Day 2023: Celebrating European unity
On 9 May, Europe Day 2023 will be celebrated by the European Union, as a moment of remembrance for the Schuman Declaration, which was made on 9 May 1950.
To mark this special occasion, EU institutions, including EU representations and delegations around the world, will organise an array of online and in-person activities that will give citizens the chance to discover and experience Europe.
In May, Europe Day brings citizens together to learn how the EU supports peace, security, and democracy by its resolve against the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine and other conflicts around the world. Europe Day 2023 also allows visitors to learn more about the EU’s efforts in building a Europe that is green, digital, competitive, fair, skilled, and strong, resilient, and safe. This year’s event will also shine a spotlight on the 2023 European Year of Skills which will begin on 9 May.
On and around Europe On this day, the EU institutions are hosting a variety of interactive activities in their various locations throughout the 27 EU members states and the world.
EU citizens will have the opportunity to visit the EU institutions at Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg.

The entire 27 EU member states The EU institutions, their partners, and networks will celebrate Europe Day around the world with a variety of entertaining, informative, and engaging activities. The Representations for the European Commission, in close collaboration with the European Parliament Liaison Offices (EPLO), the Europe Direct Centres, and other national and region partners, plan various actions to mark this day, such as edutainment and quizzes; festivals, sporting activities, cultural events, and debates; but also visibility campaigns and social media campaigns.

The European Commission has announced the results of the 2024 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks call.
The Commission will fund a total of 149 excellent doctoral programmes with €608.6 million to train over 1800 doctoral candidates in and outside academia.
€536.9 million will be awarded to 133 standard Doctoral programmes, to train PhD candidates and develop their skills.
Funding includes also €26 million for 8 Industrial Doctoral programmes to train PhD candidates and develop their skills outside academia, including in industry and business. Doctoral candidates will also benefit from joint industry-academia supervision.
An additional €33 million will be allocated to 8 Joint Doctoral programmes, which promote joint selection, training and supervision leading to joint or multiple doctoral degrees.
The European Research Executive Agency (REA) received 1,417 applications for this call. This means a success rate of 10.6 %.
Close collaboration beyond academia
These doctoral programmes are implemented by international partnerships, involving 9335 organisations in 130 countries in the EU, Horizon Europe associated countries and beyond. 4725 of these are private for-profit entities.
Selected projects are coordinated by organisations in 18 countries.
