Gigi Riva, a long line for the last farewell
È the day of the farewell to Gigi Riva, who died Monday at age 79. Funeral services will be held today, and at the Unipol Domus in Cagliari in the early morning, the funeral chamber was opened. A very long line immediately formed of people who wanted to pay their last respects to a true legend for a city, a region and an entire nation.
Gigi Riva è was an iconic figure in Italian soccer. Honorary president of Cagliari and known as the “Thunderbolt”, he spent much of his career with the Rossoblu club, helping it win the historic Scudetto in the 1969/70 season. Born in Leggiuno, in the province of Varese, Riva linked his playing career and life to Sardinia, becoming a true idol and symbol of the Sardinian people.
In his international career with the Italian national team, he reached extraordinary heights, winning the 1968 European Championship in Rome and becoming vice-world champion in 1970 in Mexico. È still the top scorer in Cagliari’s history, with an impressive total of 164 goals. In addition, with 35 goals in 42 appearances, he holds the record for the most goals scored in the Azzurri shirt.
His importance in the world of soccer è has also been recognized outside the Italian borders: è he was placed 74º in the list of the best footballers of the 20th century compiled by World Soccer magazine. In 2011 è he was honored with induction into the Italian soccer Hall of Fame among the ‘veterans’.
After retiring from playing soccer, Gigi Riva continued to live in Cagliari, where he opened a soccer school in his name. He also held several managerial positions, including president of Cagliari for a brief period in the 1980s and later served as accompanying manager and team manager of the Italian national team until 2013. In 2019 he was named honorary president of Cagliari in recognition of his extraordinary career and contribution to soccer.

Another big man exits the tournament. After the various Alcaraz and Djokovic, Zverev è is also no longer in the running at the US Open. The German è was beaten by Fritz in four sets (7-6 (2) 3-6 6-4 7-6), at the end of a match that è lasted almost three and a half hours. A defeat that leaves a lot of bitterness in Zverev’s mouth. The German was aiming to reach at least the final.
A feat for the American who, dragged by the home crowd, won the first semifinal of a Slam event. After winning the first set on tie-break, Fritz suffered the return of Zverev, who took home the second partial with a peremptory 6-3. The momentum seemed to be in the German’s hands but Fritz escaped on 3-0. Zverev recovers but gives up at the più beautiful. Spectacular fourth set. Zverev tries everything but, once again, the tie-break costs him dearly. He loses it 7-3 and says goodbye to the tournament.
Dreams big for Fritz who, in the semifinals, will face the other American Tiafoe who, in the quarterfinals, wins the match with Dimitrov, forced to retire in the fourth set due to a physical problem: 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, 4-1 the partials in favor of Tiafoe.
The United States dreams, after 21 years (Roddick, 2003), of an American winning the U.S. Open. In the meantime, it enjoys Sinner who, thanks to Zverev è’s knockout; increasingly serene in his comfortable position as world No. 1.

Juventus, the list
Juventus has also released the Uefa list for the 2024/25 Champions League and specifically there are 28 players chosen by Thiago Motta: 22 on List A and 6 on List B.
The surprise name è that of Arthur, considered until yesterday out of the Bianconeri project, which remains for all intents and purposes Filip Kostic, cut and looking for accommodation abroad.
