Another victory in the new season. Max Verstappen, who started the season from pole position, won the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday. He led the race for almost the entire time as he began his defence of back-to-back Formula One championships.

Red Bull also won a dominant 1-2, with Sergio Perez coming in 12 seconds behind him on the second place. Fernando Alonso, 41, took a brilliant 3rd place and claimed his 99th career podium.

Alonso’s supporters have already dubbed this season “Mission 33”, in hopes that the Spanish driver will win his 33rd race. His last win came 10 years ago, with Ferrari.

The Dutchman was racing for the first time at the floodlit Sakhir circuit. Last year, he had retired only a few laps before the finish of the opening race.

Both Red Bulls failed here in 2022.

Charles Leclerc retired from the race on Lap 41, after winning the race last year. His Ferrari lost power.

Leclerc’s retirement sparked panic at Ferrari. Carlos Sainz Jr did not even bother to defend himself from Alonso, who overtook Carlos Sainz Jr with 11 laps remaining.

Sainz finished fourth, ahead of seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton who took fifth place and Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll who took sixth.

Stroll’s performance is impressive, considering that he missed the preseason testing due to an injury sustained in a bicycle crash. This injury required minor surgery on Stroll’s right wrist.

Red Bull leads the constructors’ ranking after their 1-2.

Aston Martin and Mercedes currently sit second and third, respectively, ahead of the next race scheduled for Saudi Arabia on 19 March.

Fiorentina, Palladino: “Inexplicable departure”

Fiorentina coach Raffaele Palladino spoke after the 3-3 draw with Puskas Akademia in the Conference League. “It was a bad start, you have to be realistic. It was an inexplicable start, leaving down 2-0 and also mentally and technically. We made technical mistakes that I don&#39t even see in practice, we were good at staying in the race”.

The Viola overturned the result in the second half: “In the second half I è liked the team attitude, I è liked the team spirit but we conceded goals on set pieces, there is no way to take a goal like thatì. You have to analyze what we did well and what there’è to improve”.

Kean found the goal: “I don&#39t think it&#39s a matter of a single player, those who è entered gave a strong push to the team. I would like to see some of this attitude from everyone, which I did not see today. I will know how to speak to the team, è it is my job and I will have to analyze this thing”.
