Atalanta, Gian Piero Gasperini sheds light on Ademola Lookman’s condition
Gian Piero Gasperini takes stock
Wednesday night’s match is yet another appointment with history for Atalanta, which will play against Barcelona in Montjuic for a chance to go directly to the Champions League round of 16 without going through the playoff. Gian Piero Gasperini, forò, will have to do without one of the most important pawns of the Nerazzurri chessboard, striker Ademola Lookman.
“Unfortunately, we expected it, he è dragged this physical problem from the game against Napoli – said the coach of the orobici to ‘Sky Sport’ -. Until now he had played on it, giving the feeling that he could still recover, but yesterday the discomfort è increased and the examinations confirmed a stop of three weeks. We hope it will be even less long”.
The examinations found a “distractive injury to the right knee with involvement of the lateral joint compartment”, as explained by the club. It is difficult, for Gasperini himself, for the management to intervene in the market to replace Lookman during the stop: “It’s a question that the club can answer better than I can, but I don't think the situation can change today, there is too little time left until the end of the winter market”.
Against Barcelona, Atalanta is aiming to confirm the brilliant results of the first few days: in seven matches it has in fact earned 14 points, winning against Shakhtar (3-0), Stuttgart (2-0), Young Boys (6-1) and Sturm Graz (5-0), drawing against Arsenal and Celtic (0-0 in both matches) and losing only to Real Madrid, with a score of 3-2.
