The clarification of Filippo Volandri on the convocations

In the convocations issued by Filippo Volandri for the final phase of the Davis Cup scheduled in Malaga from Nov. 19 to 24, not only the returns of Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti stand out, but also the absence of Matteo Berrettini and Matteo Arnaldi, who had performed well in the group stage held from Sept. 10 to 15 and which promoted Italy to the quarters.

In addition to Sinner and Musetti, in fact, there are Simone Bolelli, Flavio Cobolli and Andrea Vavassori, while compared to the matches played in Bologna, the two Matthews, Berrettini and Arnaldi, are not there at all. However, Filippo Volandri clarified that this is not a final decision and that between now and November things could still change.

“I would like to emphasize that these pre-convocations are based on the’current ranking,” explained Volandri. “Between now and November I will collect all the elements that will allow me to make the final convocations, based on the physical and mental condition of our guys. The roster è consists of important players and all of the highest level, which I know I can count on. We are all working to arrive ready for the’appointment with the Final 8”.

“In the quarters we will have to face Argentina, an important team,” the Italian captain went on to say, talking about the upcoming opponents: Guillermo Coria has at his disposal singles players of absolute value such as Cerundolo, Etcheverry, Baez and a quality doubles team such as the one composed of Molteni and Gonzalez. We, però have a strong team, composed of exceptional guys who form a group that precisely in cohesion finds its strength. So I can only look forward to November and the future of the Davis Cup”.

Professor Castellacci’s opinion on Alex Meret’s injury

It could last as long as 30 or 40 days when Napoli will have to do without Alex Meret, who was injured during Saturday night’s match between the partenopei and Juventus at the latter’s home. Speaking out in this regard, in an interview with ‘Kiss Kiss Napoli’, è Professor Enrico Castellacci, former medical director of the national team and part of the world champion staff in 2006.

“If the injury è of second degree the times are a può longer, we are around thirty or forty days – explained Professor Castellacci, who specializes in Orthopedics and Traumatology, Physiokinesiotherapy and Sports Medicine -. It also depends on whether the second-degree injury will beà confirmed in subsequent checks”.

“Whatò happens to a goalkeeper è differs from what happens to field players,” the former Italian national team doctor further explained. “The injuries are also different, the goalkeeper makes sudden movements in laterality. There are more specific injuries depending on the role the player plays”.

It is therefore looking like a rather long period for coach Antonio Conte without his starting goalkeeper. At the moment, the goal è entrusted to Elia Caprile, designated deputy at the beginning of the season: in the rose there’è also Nikita Contini, but it is not excluded that Napoli intervenes on the free market.

Davis Cup, Jannik Sinner back among the summoned

After his absence (agreed among all parties involved) from the group elimination held between Sept. 10 and 15, Jannik Sinner returns to the list of summoned players for the Davis Cup diagrammed on Monday by Filippo Volandri. Along with Sinner, the Italian non-player captain also named Simone Bolelli, Flavio Cobolli, Lorenzo Musetti and Andrea Vavassori.

Volandri himself explained that these are actually pre-convocations for the final round scheduled for November 19-24 in Malaga and that until the last available date, names could change depending on the individual state of form, both mental and physical.

A return to the Azzurri is therefore in the offing for Jannik Sinner, a major player in the final phase of the 2023 Davis Cup in which he gave decisive points to Italy both in the semifinal against Serbia, also canceling three match points to Novak Djokovic and then beating him in a comeback, and in the very final against Australia, scoring the decisive point against Alex de Minaur to return to Italy the world&#39s most prestigious salad bowl for the first time in 47 years.

In Malaga, Italy, which topped Group A played in Bologna along with the Netherlands, eliminating Belgium and Brazil, will face Argentina, which in Group D, whose matches were played in Manchester, England, finished second behind Canada, eliminating Great Britain and Finland.

The probable lineups

It will be the all-Lombard challenge between Atalanta and Como to close Monday evening (referee Tremolada of Monza, kickoff at 20.45) the fifth day of the Serie A championship. Up for grabs, for both, is the chance to greatly improve the current standings, which sees the Orobici at 6 points and the Larians at 2.

For Atalanta è a chance to confirm the good things they showed, after defeats against Torino and Inter, in successive matches against Fiorentina, beaten 3-2, and Arsenal, with whom they drew 0-0, even wasting a penalty with Retegui. Precisely the Italo-Argentine will be one of the two references in attack, along with Lookman, in the 3-4-1-2 that will see on the three-quarter Marco Brescianini and on the right flank the return of Bellanova, who started from the bench in the Champions.

Como è on the other hand, still in search of their first success this season: a result that seemed very close nine days ago against Bologna, but vanished in the last quarter of an hour due to the Felsina goals of Castro and Iling Junior, the latter able to equalize at 91′. Against the Nerazzurri, Fabregas is expected to rely for the first time on Van der Brempt in defense, while in attack he will again entrust Cutrone, who scored against Bologna, with the role of point.

Atalanta-Como, probable formations

ATALANTA (3-4-1-2): Carnesecchi; Kossounou, Hien, Djimsiti; Bellanova, Pasalic, Ederson, Ruggeri; Brescianini; Retegui, Lookman. All: Gasperini.

COMO (4-2-3-1): Audero; Van der Brempt, Dossena, Kempf, Moreno; Sergi Roberto, Perrone; Strefezza, Paz, Fadera; Cutrone. All: Fabregas.
