The Italian Cup è of Conegliano, Paola Egonu and Milan yield at tie-break

Allianz Vero Volley Milan comes out defeated in the last act of the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa 2024. Winning the competition è was Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano, winner of the trophy for the fifth consecutive time – sixth overall -, at the end of a match that ended 3-2 (25-21; 22-25; 25-19; 19-25; 15-10) in the sold-out Pala Trieste at the end of almost two and a half hours of endless emotions.

The Venetian immediately attempted the initial breakaway, propitiated by a few too many inaccuracies in the Milanese attack (6-3). Conegliano increases the gap to 4 lengths (10-6), before the time-out called by Gaspari. Egonu and Daalderop are good at finding a couple of very angled diagonals, but the score still sees Imoco ahead (16-10). Lubian and Haak attack hard, Castillo holds in reception and defense but Milan cannot find the right gear in this first set (20-13). Orro è excellent on serve with her first ace of the match, Egonu takes the right tempo for monster block (21-15). Vero Volley takes courage, takes great advantage of Sylla’s service turn coming back strongly in the match up to -2 (21-19): time-out for coach Santarelli. The match turns on but, at the end, Conegliano è more è lucid and secures the first set 25-21.

Milan attacked the second game well, immediately putting in the break, led by Egonu’s flashes (4-6). Conegliano è inaccurate on serve, in contrast to the meneghine who not only push hard on serve but are also continuous in attack, maintaining the two-point gap (10-12). Orro attacks decisively as a true captain, while Rettke è adept at hitting a fast serve (12-15). Conegliano gets back in the slipstream (14-15), but Egonu immediately takes care of chasing back the opponents on -2. The Venetians find offensive brilliance, tying the score at 17-17. Heyrman and Cazaute come in, with the Belgian who with excellent defense propitiates Rettke’s winning first half (18-19). Heyrman again great protagonist with a wonderful monster block that gives the break to Milan (20-22): technical suspension called by coach Santarelli. The last points are in the hands of Egonu: splendid lungolinea and short ball of 21-24, before Conegliano’s hitting error delivers the set in Milan&#39s hands.

Conegliano immediately clicks into high gear at the beginning of the third set, putting a 5-point gap against the Milanese (6-1). Milan relies on the attacks of its powerhouses Heyrman-Rettke, but Santarelli’s team accelerates violently, touching +6 (10-4). Gaspari calls back to sé her girls for a time-out. In the moment of difficulty; Orro puts the ball in the hands of Egonu, who is good at unloading a very powerful diagonal (14-7). The meneghine raise the pace in defense, going splendidly at the wall and getting back to a 5-point gap (15-10). Milan bravely attempts a comeback, but the advantage of the Venetian è important (20-14). Sylla and Egonu take possession of the scene in attack, allowing Vero Volley to get back into the match (21-17). The videocheck detects Heyrman’s wall touch for Conegliano’s set point, finalized by Plummer’s dunk for 2-1 (25-19).

Bajema immediately scores in the opening of the fourth game, thanks to a mani-out (0-1). The American setter impacts the match well, defending well on the opponent’s attacks and also being precise in attack, with Milan ahead in the score (5-7). Egonu scores with a mani-out, maximum advantage for Vero Volley (6-9) and time-out for Santarelli. Folie re-enters the court and immediately makes her mark with a stunning monster block against Haak (8-11). Conegliano gets back in the slipstream (12-13), the meneghine chase them back but suffer the comeback with a venomous parallel by Cook: 15-16 and time-out Gaspari. Technical suspension that allows the Milanese to find the right focus again, coming off the bench with energy, allowing them to stretch again to +4 (16-20). Egonu again rises to the cathedra, scoring the ace in the decisive moment to leave Milan firmly in command (18-23). It’s always the Venetian opposite to take the responsibility; when the ball is hot; another mani-out and set-point Milan, capitalized thanks to a wonderful Sylla (19-25): everything is decided at the tie-break.

Egonu immediately leads with the first two Milan points of the fifth set (2-2). Conegliano goes ahead with Cook, but è quick Milan reaction with Egonu and Folie’s wall for the break, sealed by Sylla’s mani-out (4-6). Imoco doesn’t throw in the towel, ties the match and at the reversal è ahead by two points (8-6). Sylla brings Milan closer again thanks to a clever lob (9-8). Allianz Vero Volley Milano accrues fatigue and becomes less clear-headed, committing a few inaccuracies in attack and reception that send the opponents up 13-10. Conegliano goes up on match point after a line touch whistled to Milan. On the next action, the same infraction spotted by the line judge handed the victory to Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano 15-10. MVP of the match was the setter of Imoco, Joanna Wolosz.

No one like Jannik Sinner in the Slams, but now there’s Daniil Medvedev

The Russian l’ve eliminated him in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon

Overcoming, in three sets, even the Paul obstacle, Sinner è earned himself a place among the top eight at the US Open. No small accomplishment, considering how many bigs were lost along the way during the tournament (Alcaraz and Djokovic above all). By beating the American, the world number 1 has hit a truly significant milestone.

He became, in fact, the only tennis player to have reached the quarterfinals in all Slam events this season. He’s only managed to do so, demonstrating why he is, at present, No. 1 in the world. Now, however, on his way is the great rival, namely Medvedev. As is well known, the Russian eliminated him in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon (in five sets).

In fact, this is an early final, considering that Medvedev, on paper, è the only big man left on the US Open draw along with Sinner himself. It is a challenge that promises sparks with the Italian who will try to improve a statistic in which he è losing. In fact, the Russian leads in the previous records: seven wins to five.

“With Medvedev it will be very tough, physically and mentally, I hope it will be a good match and that you can have fun” the words of Sinner himself spoken at the end of the match he won against the American Paul. The Russian is having a masterful tournament, playing at a very high level but Sinner is well physically, è ready for the challenge and, best to remember, è the number 1 in the world.

Milan: Ismael Bennacer does not leave, Adrien Rabiot does not arrive

Fonseca has already reinstated it, it will come in handy

Bennacer, after being considered redundant throughout the summer market session (so much so that he missed a few training sessions because he was “on the market”), has found out his future: he stays at AC Milan. The opportunity’to go and play in the rich Saudi Pro League did not è materialize and, therefore, Bennacer will continue his adventure at AC Milan.

The closing of the market in Saudi Arabia has sealed the end of the soap opera. Fonseca will have, therefore, at his disposal, Bennacer at least until January. A valuable element, if we consider how instrumental he was in winning the Scudetto in 2022 with Pioli on the bench to guide him.

Bennacer’s stay at the Diavolo closed, for good, the Rossoneri club’s doors to Rabiot. The Frenchman, having ended his long adventure at Juventus, seemed to be able to settle at AC Milan but, in the end, the negotiation never è got off the ground. The French midfielder, unemployed luxury, will have to look for another team.

Actually, the only possible route seems to be Turkey, maybe right at Galatasaray, together with Osimhen. Maybe not the very first choice (not even for the Nigerian outgoing from Napoli) but better than staying unemployed luxury. Meanwhile, with Bennacer’s confirmation, the Diavolo è complete. Fonseca now knows who he will be able to count on for this season, which is currently off to an uphill start.

US Open, Jannik Sinner sweeps Tommy Paul in three sets: he’s in the quarters

World No. 1 has never made it past the quarterfinals at the US Open

Another great performance by Sinner. The Italian betrayed no emotion and got rid of the home idol Paul in three sets: 7-6, 7-6, 6-1 the partials in favor of the world number 1 who thus conquers the pass for the quarterfinals of the last Slam of the season where, waiting for him, there is Medvedev, his executioner at Wimbledon.

Sinner’s start is not one for anthology. He lost serve twice in the first set but è did well to fight back and take home the set in the tie-break. Very hard-fought second set, with the American doing everything to ruin Sinner’s plans but without succeeding. Another tie-break and 2-0 Sinner. Embittered, Paul begins to lose confidence in his own means. Sinner, like the world No. 1 that he is è, inserts the high gears and closes the file with a comfortable 6-1.

A test of great substance that confirms that Sinner is tremendously focused on his mission, which is to try to take home what would be his second Slam of the season (he won the Australian Open). Meanwhile è he has become the only person this season to have reached the quarterfinals in all four Grand Slam events. Not a bad achievement.

Now, on his way, there’s that Medvedev who, even lately, è managed to beat him. In fact, the record speaks for itself: 7-5 in favor of the Russian who, like Sinner, is having an excellent US Open. The Wimbledon rematch is worth a spot in the semifinals.
