Sampdoria in C, club makes self-criticism: “Choices not up to”

Sampdoria is beginning to concretely face a reality that will see it start again next season in Serie C, for the first time in its history. The blucerchiato club has taken almost 24 hours to realize the consequences of the’bitter draw with Juve Stabia, putting down on paper thoughts and words destined especially for its fans.
“The relegation that matured yesterday represents one of the most painful and significant moments in the history of U.C. Sampdoria– reads the statement issued Tuesday by the Ligurian club -. A bitter epilogue that imposes a’full, collective and not deferable” assumption of responsibility.
“Over the course of the season – we read further in the note – the ownership has supported the project with significant investments both on the organizational and technical levels, betting in every area on top-level professionals, with the’ambition to bring Sampdoria back to the top. This, however, was not enough. The season was marked by choices that were not up to the mark, mistakes and dynamics that we were unable to correct in time”.
“The first thought – officially emphasizes Sampdoria– goes to our fans. To those who, home and away, have continued to support these colors with passion and belonging. Disappointing them is what hurts the most. To them go our most sincere apologies. We know that words do not bridge the gap with expectations, but they are the first step toward renewed commitment”.
“U.C. Sampdoria has a history and an’identity that ownership, management and the team are called upon to respect and protect. Now it is time to think clearly, reorganize rigorously and work with even greater determination to restore the club to the dignity it deserves. Getting back up will not be easy. But it’s the only possible direction. We owe it to our history, our city and every person who loves this jersey” is the club”s final promise.

Sampdoria in C, Massimo Ferrero turns the knife back on itself
Sampdoria has been relegated to Serie C, and twisting the knife in the wound was Massimo Ferrero. The left the club in a way that was anything but serene and decided to rage in the most delicate hours in the history of the Genoa-based club.
Coinciding with the match with Juve Stabia, which later proved to be decisive for Sampdoria’s relegation, Ferrero was intercepted by some fans who engaged him in an impromptu interview later circulated swirling on the web. And it was here that the ‘Viperetta’ addressed words that were anything but comforting to those who cherish the Blucerchiati colors.
“What should I say to the Juve Stabia fans? What do you want? You are already saved”, Ferrero began. Then instead, pressed on Sampdoria, he rehashed: “If you lose well serves you. There will be a reason”. The defeat then did not come, but the 0-0 was enough to make Doriana relegation official.
On Wednesday, the club taken full responsibility for what happened, admitting that it had made some fatal mistakes and promising that Sampdoria will be at the center of a project that envisages its rebirth, no matter how complex it may appear. In the darkest hours from its foundation, however, there also came a message that was anything but supportive from Ferrero. And that certainly adds to the anger and frustration of a blucerchiata Genoa already shaken to the core.

Atalanta, revolving doors: both Carnesecchi and Rui Patricio in the balance
Atalanta soccer market: not only Gian Piero Gasperini, among the nodes that the Nerazzurri management must untangle ahead of next season there are several concerning the always delicate role of goalkeeper. Both of the Dea’s number 1s may in fact change air ahead of next season, albeit with different prospects. And the eventual goodbyes of Marco Carnesecchi, Rui Patricio or both place the Orobica management in the position of having to protect itself even now.
As for Carnesecchi, in his first season as an undisputed starter between the team’s goalposts (last year’s Europa League goalkeeper, up to and including the victorious final in Dublin, was Juan Musso), Atalanta has no intention of selling him. Milan, however, is knocking, especially the moment it decides to take a step beyond Mike Maignan. And it is not certain that the Romagna-based extreme defender will not decide to listen to the market sirens.
On the other side there’s Rui Patricio, who at Atalanta has experienced a season as a pure twelfth. It is a prospect that the Portuguese may not accept for much longer, with the idea that he may leave Bergamo during the summer. Carnesecchi’s departure would be a game-changer, but the Orobica management must carefully evaluate all possibilities.
For this reason, several young profiles ended up on Tony D’Amico’s notebook. One of them leads to Lorenzo Montipò of Verona, who, however, seems to convince only as a backup goalkeeper. The discourse is different for Elia Caprile, at Cagliari but owned by Napoli, and who at Atalanta could experience a parabola similar to the one that was Carnesecchi’s: a year as an alternative to a more experienced colleague to act as his “mother hen”. Everything, however, depends on the future of the current goalkeepers under contract with a Dea that once again could change several pawns between seasons.

Jorge Martin and Aprilia: the breakup and the consequences on MotoGP
Jorge Martin and Aprilia have seen their marriage practically never blossom, with the 2024 MotoGP world champion struggling since the beginning of the season with the aftermath of the physical problems that have heavily affected his last few months until the dramatic crash in Lusail. Now, however, rumors about his willingness to make a change of scenery as soon as possible are creating a domino effect of a magnitude yet to be delineated.
On the one hand there is even talk of a Dorna rather annoyed by these possible shake-ups, through boss Carmelo Ezpeleta. On the other, Aprilia itself could find itself facing the difficult challenge of replacing Martin: not only a top-level rider, but even the reigning champion. Finally, the Spaniard himself would have to define the house from which to start again in case of a farewell to Noale.
The real problem is that several contracts for 2026 have already been signed, and it appears difficult to get around them. For this reason Aprilia could knock on the doors of KTM to inquire about the profile of Pedro Acosta, who, however, in common with Martin has among other things the same manager: Albert Valera. Then there is the’Enea Bastianini option, which, however, seems to convince less the’Aprilia.
Here is that Martin himself could solve the problem, should he decide to settle at Honda in 2026. This operation could put Luca Marini back on the market, but also Johann Zarco, who would once again see the doors of the factory team barred. Both could then end up in the crosshairs of an’Aprilia that paradoxically could already in mid-May not see the’time for 2025 to end to reason about its future.
