Monte Carlo is a place suspended in time, which manages to modernize itself more and more every day, while sinking its solid roots within solid traditions that form its foundation. The Monte-Carlo Country Club is the epitome of this, a place where tradition is breathed in, while still updating year after year. One of the traditions of this place is the convivial time
organized by the tournament’s main sponsor, Rolex, which at each edition, invites to a meeting the journalists who cover the event, to tell about this modernity and associate it with the players who most characterize its brand strength.

How not to talk in this sense about Alcaraz and Sinner, two of the most important ambassadors of the brand? We did so with Stephane Simian former world number 41 in singles and now representative of the Geneva-based house: “We are very happy to have two representatives like Alcaraz and Sinner, two players who embody the class and style that are the basis of our idea, of the values we want to spread”.

Impossible not to ask him, as a former colleague, how Sinner can come back after such a long period of inactivity: “I think this period has done him good. He will certainly have worked on his physique to get back to his best when he is called upon to return to 100 percent. I have no doubt in my mind that he will resume the path that was interrupted, continuing to be number 1 in the world, not only on paper, but also with performance on the court. In this sense, the sporting rivalry with Alcaraz can only be good for him, because it pushes both of them to raise the level of competition, in a continuous confrontation that all tennis lovers are happy to see”.

It’s a historic day for Visma Lease a Bike, which concludes the Giro d’Italia 2025 in triumph with a double success: Simon Yates conquers the final Maglia Rosa and Olav Kooij wins the final sprint in the heart of Rome, in front of the Colosseum. After the partial victories in Siena with Van Aert and in Viadana with the same Kooij, the Dutch team also imposes itself in the Eternal City, closing an unforgettable edition.

Yates’ overall triumph was already mathematical after Saturday’s queen stage on the Colle delle Finestre. The Brit dominated the Giro with intelligence and regularity, leaving behind Isaac Del Toro (UAE Team Emirates), second at 3’56”, and Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost), third at 4’43”. A result that crowns an edition of the pink race full of excitement and twists and turns.

The final stage, on a city circuit in Rome, saw a six-man breakaway attempt the feat, with Cerny (Soudal Quick Step) last to hold on before rejoining with 5.8 km to go. From there the battle for the sprint began: Groves’ Alpecin Deceuninck tried to get ahead, but Visma Lease a Bike built a perfect train. Affini and van Aert launched an impregnable Kooij, who set Kaden Groves and Matteo Moschetti in a sprint, with Mads Pedersen just off the podium.

The passage of the riders through the Vatican before the official start was also evocative, with a special greeting from Pope Leo XIV, in a stage symbolically dedicated to Pope Francis.

The Giro d’Italia 2025 thus closes in the sign of Simon Yates and his team, the absolute protagonists of a race that, between mountains, sprints and heart, offered spectacle until the last meter.
