Historic triumph for Mirra Andreeva in Dubai

Mirra Andreeva makes tennis history in Dubai. The Russian tennis player, in fact, defeated Danish Clara Tauson in two sets with a score of 7-6 6-1, becoming, at the age of 17 years and 298 days, the youngest player ever to win a Masters 1000.

The first set started immediately uphill for the Russian, who immediately lost her serve in the second game. The Krasnoyarsk native’s reaction, however, was not long in coming, as between the third and ninth games she placed a five-game-to-two split. Tauson, with her back against the wall, did not flinch and managed to recover the disadvantage in turn, taking the match to the tie-break, which was dominated with a clear 7-1 by Andreeva.

In the second set, the Danish tennis player soon exits the match, as after holding the serve in the second game, she suffers a five-game losing streak that gives the victory to the young Russian.

“Honestly è unbelievable. I had as a goal to get into the top 10 by the beginning of the year, but it is only the end of February and I did it .I am so happy with the way I played. I was very nervous, made a few too many double faults and errors, but I was able to handle the pressure. I never thought about the possibility of winning, I just focused on the next point. It was tough, in the first set I feel I was lucky, but è something I dreamed of as a child and now the dream è became reality. I am speechless” these are the warm statements of Mirra Andreeva after the triumph.

Eurobasket 2025, in Reggio Calabria Italy hosts Hungary’Hungary

After the brilliant victory in Istanbul against Turkey last Thursday, Italy è in Reggio Calabria to face Hungary (tomorrow, Feb. 23, 8:30 p.m. live DAZN, Sky Sport Uno and Now) and close the Group B in the best possible way, however already won by virtue of the four victories obtained in the five games played so far. For the occasion, the PalaCalafiore will be Sold-out (7,000 spectators).

Compared to the roster that took the court in Istanbul, head coach Gianmarco Pozzecco will recover Saliou Niang, who was forced to forfeit against the Turks due to a mild flu-like condition. He will not be of the match by technical choice Riccardo Rossato, replaced by Sasha Grant. For him and Niang this will be the absolute debut in the Senior National Team. Thus, the number of Pozzecco management rookies rises to 12.

The captain will always be Alessandro Pajola, who in Turkey updated his career high in Azzurro by scoring 12 points. Also improved the personal record of points in the national team for Giordano Bortolani (16 in Turkey and 100 in total as Nicola Akele). First two career points with Italbasket for Dame Sarr. Ten rebounds, on the other hand, is the career high in Azzurro for Momo Diouf.

Given up for dead too early, the Hungarians managed the feat of making it to the last game of the round while still retaining a faint hope of qualification. After starting with four consecutive defeats on their way to EuroBasket 2025, the Magyars surprised everyone by managing to beat Iceland at home, overturning the -5 in the first leg and closing 87-78. By virtue of this result, Hungary will arrive in Reggio Calabria with the categorical imperative to win while hoping that Turkey beats the Icelanders. With these two crosses, having the double-header on their side, the Hungarians would qualify right at the expense of Iceland. On the bench there’è Gašper Okorn, Slovenian coach of the’Estra Pistoia in our Championship and who in Hungary won two Scudetti and a Magyar Cup with Falco Szombathely. The staples of the team are, for several years now, Akos Keller, David Vojvoda and Zoltan Perl. Without Adam Hanga, fantasy è in the hands of Nate Reuvers, a big forward from Valencia born in Lakeville, Minnesota and with a past at Cibona Zagreb and especially at Pallacanestro Reggiana (2022-2023). In the’first leg in Szombathely, Italy clearly imposed 62-83 with 12 points apiece for Giordano Bortolani and Amedeo Tessitori.

Starting with the friendly win in May 1936 in Padua (48-14), there are a total of 33 comparisons between Italy and Hungary: 21 Azzurre victories including a +48 (104-56) in November 1988 in Trapani valid for the European qualifiers and 12 defeats including the -32 in May 1954 in Milan in a friendly (63-95).

EuroBasket 2025: the teams already qualified
Meanwhile, only four teams are missing to complete the grid of the 24 participants in EuroBasket 2025: in addition to the four host nations, Latvia, Poland, Finland and Cyprus, Slovenia, Israel, Portugal, Italy, Turkey, Belgium, Spain, France, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Great Britain, Czechia, Serbia, Georgia, Estonia and Lithuania will also take part in the continental review. They will be joined by one of Iceland and Hungary and three of the four teams in Group D: Germany, Montenegro, Sweden and Bulgaria.

Udinese, Lorenzo Lucca apologizes by quoting Lucio Corsi

The quote from Lucio Corsi è the heart of the social post of Lorenzo Lucca who apologizes to Udinese teammates and fans after the misdeed of the penalty ‘taken away’ from captain Thauvin in the victorious away match in Lecce yesterday.

“I wanted to be a tough guy forò, alone, I am nobody”, writes Lucca. Accompanying the quote is an image of the united team, exactly what Coach Runjaic asked for after the match.

For the striker, who climbed into double figures precisely with the penalty scored in Lecce, the citation calling for team unity will not serve to avert the club&#39s fine, which will arrive on time after the clarification set early next week.

Torino-Milan 2-1

It’s an increasingly black crisis for AC Milan, which after being eliminated from the Champions League at the hands of Feyenoord also fell in the league against Torino. The Rossoneri, in fact, were defeated by the granata 2-1 thanks to Thiaw’s own goal and Gineitis’s goal. Also decisive for the success was the penalty parried by Milinkovic-Savic on Pulisic.

Ready to go and Milan immediately committed the omelet: Pedersen threw deep for Sanabria, who was anticipated by an excellent exit of Maignan. On the deflection, however, the Rossoneri goalkeeper unintentionally hits Thiaw, who deflects the ball into the goal. On 21’comes the first big chance for the meneghini with Gimenez, who from a good position kicks toward the goal finding an excellent response from Milinkovic-Savic.

On 31′, the referee awarded a penalty kick to the guests for a hand foul by Pedersen. From the penalty spot, however, Pulisic was hypnotized by the Serbian extreme defender, who confirmed himself as a true penalty taker. In the final half, he partially redeemed himself Maignan, who saved 2-0 twice in a very short time.

In the resumption, Milan increased its pressure by going moreù times close to the equalizer. After a post hit by Joao Felix, the Rossoneri found the equalizer in 74′ with the usual Reijnders, who beat Milinkovic-Savic from the left.

The joy, however, lasted very little for Conceiçao’s boys, as in 76′ Sanabria quickly beat a free-kick serving Gineitis, who slipped it past Maignan with a perfect left-footed cross. In the final minutes, the Rossoneri tried everything in search of an equalizer, but the granata fort held until the final whistle.
