Milan-Cortina 2026, first three torchbearers announced
Singer Mahmood, ski champion Deborah Compagnoni and Special Olympics athlete Eros Zanotti are the first three torchbearers of the Olympic flame’s journey to the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Games.
The names were unveiled by Coca-Cola inside Casa Coca-Cola at the Palafiori in Sanremo, right in the week of the 75ª edition of the Italian Song Festival. Three exceptional personalities, united by Olympic values and the spirit of inclusion.The announcement è came on the heels of the official opening of applications to allow everyone to become torchbearers for Milan-Cortina 2026. Symbolically kicking things off were Carlo Conti and Carolina Kostner from the Ariston stage who, in turn, will be part of the team of 10,502 torchbearers who will carry the flame from Rome (departure Dec. 6) to Milan (arrival at the San Siro Stadium on Feb. 6). And the adhesions have already reached four thousand.
“Our relationship with the Olympic movement has been going on for almost 100 years,” Luca Santandrea, General Manager Olympic and Paralympic Games Milano Cortina 2026 of Coca-Cola, commented at Casa Coca-Cola.
We have renewed the agreement with the IOC until 2032 which makes us their longest-lasting partner. We started supporting the Olympic flame in Barcelona in 1992, è an excitement that has è never faded. During the flame’s journey, torchbearers will serve as bearers of the values of inclusion, unity and hope that have always characterized Coca-Cola. Our secret formula è having deep relationships with all territories. The first three torchbearers we have chosen are great talents who, thanks to the diversity they represent, allow us to touch the hearts of all”.

Dolomiti Energia Trentino beat UNAHOTELS Reggio Emilia 85-80 at the Inalpi Arena in the third quarterfinal of the Italian Cup Final Eight and will now afronterà the winner between Trapani Shark and Pallacanestro Trieste.
It is the Emilians, after the point-to-point start, who dominate the first quarter, touching the 9-point lead and closing it ahead 22-15. The lead increases to +15 (32-17) in the second quarter but Trento recovers thanks mainly with an 8-0 partial and we arrive at the long interval with Reggio Emilia ahead only 44-42.
In the third quarter the Emilians re-along to +11, the last ten minutes begin with the’UNAHOTELS leading 64-56. But here everything changes: with a 22-12 partial Trento completely overturns the situation getting to +9 before the final futile 5-0 partial for Reggio Emilia, for which Cassius Winston scores 25 points, for Dolomiti Energia 22 by Myles Cale.

Giannis Kastritis è the new coach of Varese Basketball. It was announced by the Red and White club itself: “Pallacanestro Varese è happy to announce the agreement reached with Giannis Kastritis, Greek coach who from today will hold the role of head coach of Openjobmetis. Kastritis è his first experience in the Italian league, but he has a long career in Europe behind him; at’the beginning of this season he was at the helm of’Aris Thessaloniki, a team he led in both the league and EuroCup”.
“We are excited to welcome coach Kastritis to Varese,” said general manager Zachary Sogolow. His experience and quality as a coach are characteristics that made him attractive to our club from the start, but his energy and passion for the game of basketball, which we believe will be contagious to players and fans, are the attributes that we feel can be instrumental in achieving our goals for this and the coming seasons”;
Born in Tripoli on April 4, 1982, Kastritis, after a brief career as a player in his homeland, soon donned the coaching robes by joining the technical staff of the youth teams of Apollon Patras’Apollon Patras. In 2006 he began his career as an assistant, first for Olympiada Patras and then for Arkadios, a formation whose head coach he became in 2012. The’opportunity è good to prove all his worth: in a couple of seasons, in fact, he leads his team to promotion to the Greek top league, an achievement that earns him the award of coach of the’year in the second division.
In the 2016-2017 season he became coach of Aries Trikala leading it to the best result in its history thanks to a 10th place in the league accrued thanks to 10 wins and 16 losses. This was followed by experiences at Kymis, Aris Thessaloniki and Iraklis Thessaloniki, before trying his hand abroad as head coach of Hapoel Tel Aviv. After only one season, however, he returned to Greece at the helm of’Aris Thessaloniki, a formation with which he had also started the current season.
Parallel to his club career, Kastritis also gained important experience with the youth national teams of Greece. Specifically è he was the coach of the Greek Under-19 national team during the 2019 FIBA Under-19 World Cup, in which the Hellenic lineup è ranked 10° place.

Somewhat by surprise, McLaren opened the new Formula 1 season. The Woking-based team, in fact, è was the first to unveil the new single-seater (MCL39), which took to the track at Silverstone and will be at the start in the next F1 World Championship.

Although last year we ended the season as constructors’ champions, it was a very balanced World Championship and so it will be again this year. We have to stay focused to compete at our best. It's going to be an exciting but incredibly challenging year. The team has worked hard and we have learned a lot from last year’s challenges, we will treasure them to achieve our goals”.
