In St. Moritz Sofia Goggia is ready to impress again

In St. Moritz Sofia Goggia è ready to amaze again
This weekend the Women’s World Cup è in St. Moritz, where two super-Gs will be held. After a fantastic return-to-competition weekend in Beaver Creek, with a second place in the downhill and a victory in the super-G, Sofia Goggia è is ready to amaze again, and with her teammates, starting with Federica Brignone and Marta Bassino. The three Italian stars want to lead their teammates to another great collective performance. Here are their words on the Fisi website.
Federica Brignone: “I really like Sankt Moritz becauseé è a varied and difficult slope, it has a lot of terrain movements and one curve different from the other. There are gates that have a lot of bumps, it can’t be a section where you can’t see anything, like last year that was really tough. Completely different from Beaver Creek, I really like the track, you have to be ready, conditions I like and these challenges stimulate me. In Beaver I couldn’t ski the way I wanted on the downhill, I felt stiff. After the first run maybe I put too many expectations on myself, in the superG I had a good race, it was very easy. there was nothing difficult and I could have done much better the steepest part. The’attitude for’was there, so’as in the women’s giant, although I didn’t feel good in the race in the first run, too bad the’exit in the second run where I was doing much better”.
Marta Bassino: “The giant remains always the favorite discipline, forò the superG I like more and more;. I have seen over the years that I put together one piece after another, for example in sliding where I struggled for so many years, now I feel much improved. I really liked Beaver Creek, it was a complete technical slope, we were coming from Copper where we had had a good training, now we are here without having skied yet since coming back to Europe, but it’s not a problem. I really like Corviglia, especially if it’s sunny. Attitude will come into play, which will make the difference even more than in other races because with overcast skies the visibility gets much worse as there are no reference points. The organizers are working on the course, so we will all be in the same conditions. I am happy to continue with the speedà then we will switch a little bit to the giant during the Christmas break before Semmering”.
Sofia Goggia: “I am very happy with my return, in Copper we had trained very well, I was aware that I had the speed to compete, sometimes when you come back from injuries è it is easier to face the races lightly becauseè nobody expects anything from you, so you should have this attitude always. Last year in Sankt Moritz I won just in superG, we hope to confirm this feeling with Corviglia. We know that it è a strange race, there are no references for the many buns, we will have to do a reconnaissance at the top, focus on the steps to perform. Trying to do my race, cross the finish line and look at the scoreboard what it says. I have done a few days of giant slalom, però the work done over the years at the technical level è remained, after Christmas we will go for a good session to prepare ourselves in the best way on the hard, keep the sensations to get back into the race in Kranjska Gora at the beginning of January”.

Ferrari, Charles Leclerc sincere but with hope for Monaco
Charles Leclerc spoke at a press conference in Monte Carlo, where the Monaco Grand Prix is being run this weekend. “There are a lot of activities to follow since it is my home race and last night we also had a preview screening of the Formula 1-inspired film – he told -. I think it is a great product that will bring even more people closer to our world and I look forward to everyone being able to go and see it at the cinema to see how it is received by the mass audience”.
The pilot of Ferrari is realistic: “Clearly we know what the weaknesses of our car have been so far, however, we are also aware that Monaco is a unique race. I am always super motivated, looking forward to getting out on the track and seeing our level of competitiveness”.
However, the monegasque has one hope: “Qualifying is of paramount importance here and I hope I can put my best foot forward as I have often managed to do on the city circuits. It has already happened in 2021 to do better than expected, hopefully history will repeat itself on Saturday”
Closing remarks on Ayrton Senna: “I have seen and reviewed pictures of him behind the wheel on the streets of the Principality and I must say that they are always a great inspiration to me. In addition, the Senna myth immediately brings me to the thought of my father, who also had the opportunity to share the track with Ayrton in Formula 3. I have never hidden the fact that, although I have never seen him live, he is one of my reference points and it is nice that there are, even years later, so many people who carry him in their hearts”.

Ducati, Marc Marquez put their hands out for Silverstone
Marc Marquez spoke at a press conference in Silverstone, where the UK Grand Prix is staged this weekend. “Definitely Le Mans was a complicated Sunday, it was easy to make mistakes – he began -. In Silverstone we will try to get back to our level and try to manage the weekend in the best way”.
The world leader has won only once on the English circuit: “I will try to score a lot of points, that is the most important thing. And then I will try to adapt to the situation. It is not one of my favorite circuits, I expect Alex and Bagnaia very strong”.
“When you are on the podium and winning races you have more fun– continued the Spaniard -When you have the’latest official version of the bike you start to feel a little bit of pressure. Last year in Gresini I was trying to rebuild confidence, but if you wear red and you have the 2025 bike you have to win. I am also having fun” though.
“There’s always something to improve, we have to improve on the details. From Austin to Le Mans we made progress, I was more relaxed. Zarco was fantastic and chose the fastest tire, while it was riskier for me to make that kind of choice. Johann, on the other hand, managed everything the best, but I can’t always play too many wild cards. It had already happened to me in Jerez”.
“I know why I didn”t win here as I did elsewhere, but I can”t say it before the GP because then maybe Pecco and Alex will hear me” concluded Marquez jokingly.

Darderi struggles but loses to Rublev: Russian in semifinals in Hamburg
Luciano Darderi’s journey at the Hamburg Atp 500 ended in the quarterfinals against Andrey Rublev of Russia. The Italian in fact was beaten in three sets with the final score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. The Russian thanks to this victory regained confidence and solidity after a complicated period, marked by seven defeats in the last nine outings.
The match in Germany opened with an immediately incisive Rublev. The Russian is solid on serve and aggressive from the back court, nullifying three break points in the first game and then taking the lead. Darderi’s difficulties on serve give the number three seed a chance to place two decisive breaks in the fourth and sixth games. The first set closed quickly with a clear 6-1, with the Russian imposing his own rhythm.
In the second partial, however, the Blue completely changes register and gear. He improves his serving percentages and is able to handle prolonged exchanges better. The forehand starts to be really incisive, often taking Rublev out of his comfort zone. After nullifying a break point, Darderi gets the decisive break in the sixth game and consolidates the lead with authority. A beautiful long backhand closes the set 6-3, reviving his ambitions.
In the deciding set, however, Rublev becomes dominant again. He immediately gets a break in the second game thanks to more incisiveness in his groundstrokes, especially with his forehand. Darderi tries to fight back, even a bit stymied and annoyed in the last set by the Italian-Argentinean. Darderi is no longer able to trouble his opponent in response. The Russian managed the advantage with experience and closed 6-3, securing a place in the semifinals, where he will take on the winner between Muller and Auger-Aliassime. Still, excellent performance by Darderi, who will now fly as soon as possible to Paris ahead of Roland Garros, where he will face the American Sebastian Korda.
