Retegui ruthless, hat trick and assist as former: Atalanta sinks Genoa

Serie A, Atalanta-Genoa 5-1
After celebrating the first European success of this season on Wednesday against Shakhtar, Atalanta is back to victory in the league as well, after the home knockout against Como and the draw in Bologna: the orobic formation got the better without too much effort against Genoa, winning 5-1 also thanks to a Mateo Retegui decidedly inspired in his first as a former Rossoblù: three goals and an assist the loot of the national team striker.
Gasperini’s (another ex-Genoa) team starts strong right away: Lookman at 6′ and Hien at 14′ both shoot just outside the goal mirror, at minute 24 instead Retegui doesn’t miss, getting rid of Vasquez’s marking on the ball put in the middle by Lookman and beating Gollini on a slide. Orobici came close to doubling the score twice before the end of the first half: on 34′ Gollini’s save on Lookman was excellent, on 41′ Kolasinac’s conclusion slipped just wide.
Gilardino, after the intermission, proposes Vogliacco in place of Bani but the substance of the match does not change, so much so that at 50’again Retegui makes it 2-0: the 25-year-old striker pounces on the ball responted by Gollini after Ederson’s conclusion and again punishes the lack of defensive coverage against him. Ten minutes pass and Retegui also becomes an assist man: a precise pass from him allows Ederson to unleash a powerful right-footed shot under the crossbar, making it 3-0.
At 67′ Ekhator and Melegoni came in for Genoa in place of Pinamonti and Miretti, while a minute later Gasperini gave space to Zaniolo and Samardzic for Lookman and De Ketelaere. The Rossoblù are on the ropes and even hurt themselves on 74′: Vogliacco hits the ball in the box with his hand, after the evaluation in the VAR Room comes the confirmation of the penalty kick, which Retegui beats past Gollini for 4-0.
Atalanta really succeeds in everything and at 80’80’ the fifth goal also arrives: it is scored by De Roon, with a splendid volley from over twenty meters that goes in the right side of the Genoese goalkeeper. There’è space, at 83’83;, for the goal of the flag by Ekhator, who beats Carnesecchi in exit after receiving the filtering of Melegoni, but the substance does not change: the Atalanta wins 5-1, rises to 10 in the standings and returns to breathe, while Genoa remains at 5 points, only one conquered from 1° September onwards.

Matteo Arnaldi is off to a good start at the Geneva ATP 250. After a surprising elimination in the first round at the Internazionali d’Italia, the tennist from Liguria redeemed himself in his debut at the ‘Gonet Geneva Open’, defeating Hugo Gaston, world number 74, in a comeback.
