South Africa Rugby Championship 2024 champion

In just under two hours, South Africa put behind it the surprising defeat seven days ago in Santiago del Estero and, demolishing Argentina with a clear 48-7 in Mbombela, won the Rugby Championship for the fifth time in its history, returning to success in the Southern Hemisphere&#39s premier tournament for the first time since 2019 and reaffirming its global superiority in rugby following its success in the 2023 World Cup.

The match è without history from the start: Aphelele Fassi goes in goal after 8′, Pieter-Steph du Toit crosses the line at 14′ (Jaden Hendrikse transforms in both cases) for 14-0. Argentina deludes itself into thinking it can come back by going in goal with Tomas Albornoz on 19′ (the same Benetton Rugby opener transforms), but unlike at home to the Pumas, South Africa does not flinch and scores virtually every time it crosses the halfway line.

Hendrikse makes it 17-7 with a free kick on 22′, then come two more goals before halftime, with Fassi on 33′ and Cheslin Kolbe on 38′, who take advantage of the ten minutes in which Mateo Carreras è was forced to the bench because of a yellow card to allow South Africa to close the first half on 27-7.

That of Mateo Carreras è the first card in the entire tournament for Argentina but it won&#39t be the only one, becauseé Pablo Matera gets himself sent off with yellow turned red after the review at the ‘bunker’ in minute 55 and Santiago Carreras gets another yellow in 68′ exactly one minute before Malcolm Marx&#39s goal for 34-7 (after Handré Pollard&#39s transformation).

Even final è all in favor of the Springboks: du Toit scores again at 73′ Jesse Kriel marks in turn at 77′. Pollard converted on both occasions and put his signature from the penalty spot on the 48-7 final.South Africa closes the tournament with 24 points, finishing ahead of New Zealand (16 points after a 31-13 success over Australia in the Italian morning), Argentina itself (14 points) and the Australian Wallabies, last with just 5 points collected in the six matches played.

First success in Sbk for Iannone, who hasn’t won since MotoGp

Eight years after the last time (it happened at the Red Bull Ring, in the 2016 MotoGp Grand Prix d’Austria), Andrea Iannone è returned to relish the joy of success, imposing himself in Race-1 at Motorland Aragon and thus conquering his first career success in World Superbike.

The Abruzzese rider of the GoEleven team placed his Ducati Panigale V4R ahead of the BMWs of Toprak Razgatlioglu, returning from injury, and Garrett Gerloff. It had been exactly 2,967 days since Iannone felt the joy of victory, an emotion that he was unable to hide after the race.

“It’s beautiful,‖ he commented.

I came back to have this feeling and it è always special. Today è a little bit’ different since it è came after a long, long time. It’s really special. I went through really difficult times but in the end the dream always lived inside me. I finally decided to come back. This year I had to recover a lot since after a long time è everything was difficult. Today we are here and we are really happy”.

” Today I didn’t just win the race, I won the race of my life,” he added, “I showed that I am a strong man. I won the race, I am happy, è it was a good race but è different than MotoGp. It’s all different. Today I won a really important race” reiterated Iannone.

.

It still remains at 1-1 in the final series, best of thirteen races, between Luna Rossa and Ineos Britannia, which will crown the winner of the Luois Vuitton Cup and thus designer the challenger to Emirates New Zealand in the 37th edition of the America’s Cup. The weather in Barcelona has a hand in it, making it useless for the two boats to take to the water.

The wind è too weak to start at the scheduled time on the schedule, it is necessary to wait two hours for the conditions to allow the start of matchrace number 3: Ineos Britannia gains a good lead over the Italian boat, but is betrayed by the wind that drops to almost zero, preventing the completion of the race within the 45 minutes stipulated by the rules and allowing Luna Rossa’s crew to breathe a sigh of relief.

All postponed until Sunday then, in a challenge that Luna Rossa had started Thursday with a 46″ win, except losing the next race by 16″. The road for both teams è still very long, since only whoever reaches seven successes will be able to win the trophy reserved for challengers.

Luna Rossa’s crew today included Jimmy Spithill and Francesco Bruni at the helm, with Umberto Molineris and Andrea Tesei as trimmers. The cyclors, on the other hand, were Enrico Voltolini, Bruno Rosetti, Cesare Gabbia and Emanuele Liuzzi.
