Mauricio Pochettino new US coach
After his experiences with Tottenham, Chelsea and PSG, Mauricio Pochettino’s coaching career will continue on the bench of a national team. The Argentine technician è has been officially announced as the moving Technical Commissioner of the United States of America.
“The U.S. Soccer Federation has named Mauricio Pochettino as the new coach of the U.S. men’s national team. Pochettino, 52, an experienced and highly respected coach, has had successful experiences with several top European clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea. Known for building teams with dynamic playing styles, he will now takeà the helm of the U.S. national team, bringing his vast experience and tactical acumen to guide the team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup at home.
As part of the transition process, Crocker appointed Mikey Varas as interim head coach for the matches against Canada last Saturday and against New Zealand. Varas, an observer of the USMNT’s opponents during the 2022 FIFA World Cup and an assistant since 2023, è was originally hired as head coach of the U-20 MNT in November 2021 and coached the U-20 MNT to the top of their group at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina.
Pochettino brings with him a wealth of experience gained in Europe. He began his coaching career with Espanyol in La Liga before moving to the Premier League, where he made a significant impact with Southampton and later with Tottenham Hotspur. At Spurs, he led the team to their first UEFA Champions League final in 2019 and consistently achieved top-four finishes in the Premier League. After his successful stint in England, Pochettino took the reins at Paris Saint-Germain, where he won the Ligue 1 title, the Coupe de France and the Trophée des Champions, also leading the team to the UEFA Champions League semifinals.
In addition to his successes on the pitch, Pochettino è known for his ability to manage and motivate high-profile players and his dedication to developing young talent. Many players who have worked under him have praised his ability to nurture their growth and maximize their potential. This focus on youth development aligns well with US Soccer’s long-term strategy to build a solid pipeline of talent for the national team. Pochettino’s appointment è supported in large part by a philanthropic gift to leadership from Kenneth C. Griffin, founder and CEO of Citadel and founder of Griffin Catalyst. Additional support è was provided by Scott Goodwin, co-founder and managing partner of Diameter, and several business partners.
Born in Murphy, Argentina, Pochettino had a brilliant playing career as a central defender, earning 20 appearances with the Argentine national team. He has played for clubs such as Newell’s Old Boys, Espanyol, Paris Saint-Germain and Bordeaux. Pochettino è holds a UEFA Pro license and is fluent in Spanish, French and English. He will work closely with US Soccer staff to ensure a smooth transition and lay the foundation for success in upcoming competitions” this is the lengthy statement issued by the US Soccer Federation.
“The decision to join US Soccer was not just about soccer for me; it was about the journey that this team and this country are on. The energy, the passion and the hunger to accomplish something truly historic here: these are the things that inspired me. The opportunity’to lead the U.S. men's national team, in front of fans as passionate as the players, è something I couldn't pass up” these, instead, are Mauricio Pochettino's first statements.

Monza, Alessandro Nesta and the special derby with Como

So Alessandro Nesta, Monza coach, on the eve of the match against Como: “It’s an important match for us because it’s been a difficult season, we’ve been missing something. Winning a derby can help put a piece to the season, it would be important, we hope to do well.”
Facing us will be mister Cesc Fabregas who in the conference spoke of a Monza that was difficult to beat and that, net of the standings, put many teams in trouble: “I return the esteem because he plays great soccer, his idea has been seen throughout the championship. I have to congratulate him”.
The derby against the Larians will be the first ever in Serie A at the’U-Power Stadium: “I hope tomorrow will be anyone’s day, anyone who wants to do their best to make history. If you win 1-0, 30 years from now we will remember that derby won because of a player. It’s an opportunity to stay in the history of this club. I would rather win the derby than finish second to last. You are always relegated, but if you win the derby you stay in history”.
Nesta recovers, at least for the bench, Luca Caldirola, Andrea Carboni and Stefano Sensi. “What I try to convey to the players are the difficulties I had. I had surgery 10 times and stopped at 38. All players have difficulties, but it matters how you react to difficulties. It’s easy to tell that I won the Champions League or that I won the World Cup, but you also have to tell that I lost a derby 5-1 and that I left the Olimpico in a helicopter. If you are given up for dead, you have to bring out the fire in you. Would I reconfirm myself next season? No, given the results”.
