The words of Omar Camporese

Omar Camporese è returned to speak at Fanpage microphones to clarify the meaning of an’interview on Jannik Sinner that made people discuss: “When people misrepresent your words, when you are targeted and you are told ‘shut up’ ‘you don&#39t understand anything’ … well it’s annoying. I understand that everyone can have his own opinion, but the thought must always be expressed politely. When it goes beyond that I don’t like it anymore. I always say you have to read the articles: I would never allow myself at this time to speak ill of Sinner, Musetti or Italy itself. They won the Davis Cup and we still do not realize what an extraordinary fairy tale these guys”.

“On social and text messages I have been getting insults. I would like to be clear once and for all becauseé I do not have to hide anything from anyone and I always say what I think: Sinner right now canò be number one or number two for me. Drawing up a weekly or monthly ranking or è the strongest player in the world or second, but we want to see him at the top. What does he have to do for me? Because there is a 1,000 point difference in my opinion he has to be careful in those three months on clay. If he can do so much in that period he canò become number one in the world”

“We always want to see him at the top: è he made it to the finals at the Finals, he won us the Davis Cup, even though it è a team match and everybody wins, he made the difference. Since in quotes he has already achieved very good results and has the chances to become number one, the only thing I can say è that in my opinion he has to pay attention in those months. In my opinion Alcaraz right now has a little bit more, Djokovic despite losing twice to Jannik has a little bit more. Remember the Grand Slams are not like the Davis Cup, they are three out of five and you struggle more. I’ll give you an example: I don’t know how it would have gone with the old Davis formula, three out of five. And then to be number one you have to look at the little details that make the difference. By the way, Slams are not like Davis which was played in perfect conditions for Jannik because it is played in the heat, on clay where his game does not lead to as many points as on fast. A lot of work needs to be done. È my opinion and I think his coach and staff think the same thing”.

“I don’t know these guys very well. But è what his face conveys to me: from there; you can tell he è someone who always wants to improve, who gets up in the morning and wonders what to do to grow. È a gift that not everyone has, an important quality. Because é he with his humility é and calmness of mind always wants to try to progress, because é I think (ironically, ed.) he wants to become the new number one in the world. In my opinion, taking away Djokovic who sooner or later will have toà stop playing, the 4 who will compete for the leadership will be Sinner, Alcaraz, Shelton and Rune”.

Us Open: ok Matteo Arnaldi, Fabio Fognini eliminated

Everything was easy for Matteo Arnaldi, the 30th seed in the draw, in the first round of the Us Open. The Sanremese player, in fact, won in three sets with Zachary Svajda, number 102 in the ATP ranking, with the final score of 6-3 6-2 6-1 after an hour and three quarters of play.

After a balanced first set, decided only by a break in the eighth game, Arnaldi ramped up in the second and third halves, leaving only three games to his opponent. The Italian in the next round will face Russian Roman Safiullin, who defeated American Matthew Forbes in three sets.

No dice, however, for Fabio Fognini, who must already leave Flushing Meadows. In fact, the Taggiasco player had to surrender to Tomas Machac, number 39 in the world rankings, who won in three sets with the final score of 7-5 6-1 6-3 after one hour and three quarters of play.

Fognini got off to a bad start and immediately went down 0-3. The Italian managed to recover the disadvantage, tying at 4-4 but on 5-5 Machac placed a new and decisive stretch (7-5). Second set was one-sided for the Czech (6-1), who also took advantage of a physical problem complained by Fognini. Jannik Sinner-Mackenzie McDonald 2-6 6-2 6-1 6-2

Jannik Sinner’s journey to the Us Open begins on the right foot. After an uphill start, the world number one rediscovered himself and beat Mackenzie McDonald, world number 140, in four sets in the first round of the U.S. major, with a final score of 2-6 6-2 6-1 6-2 after 2 hours and 24 minutes of play.

The challenge starts badly for the South Tyrolean who surrenders the serve in the opening game. McDonald confirms the lead (2-0), Sinner immediately recovers (2-2) but then loses four consecutive games, with the U.S. cashing in the first partial 6-2 in the presence of a rather unrecognizable Italian.

Sinner gets off to a bad start in the second set as well, suffering the break in the opening with no less than two double faults. Here forò comes the reaction of the leader of the seeding who threads four consecutive games and closes for 6-2 the second partial, putting the set count back on a par.

From that moment on, the South Tyrolean put the arrow in his hands. The blue, in fact, overturned the initial disadvantage and went ahead by a set, dominating the third partial, which he won 6-1 after only 25 minutes. The fourth set was also without history, in which Sinner flew up 4-0 in a flash and then closed 6-2.

Sinner thus advances to the second round of the Us Open where he will find another American: Alex Michelsen, who defeated Eliot Spizzirri (6-1 7-5 6-3) in three sets.
