Champions League, Trento imposes its law in Poland

In Poland, Trentino Itas immediately found its way back to victory, closing the first round of Pool B undefeated and with full points. Tonight in Rzeszow the Italian Champions showed that they have absorbed well the first setback in the championship last Sunday, defeating the court of Asseco Resovia in just three sets. An important and very heavy result, which allows the Giallobl&ugrave team to remain lonely at the top of the standings of its grouping and to look at the descending phase of the first phase of the European competition with greater conviction and serenity.

Facing a formation such as the Polish one that absolutely needed the victory to keep a chink for the top spot still open, Podrascanin and his teammates immediately returned to show off their best volleyball, dominating the first and second sets thanks to a great efficiency in the break point phase (enhanced by the excellent night of the attack and the great work done between serve, wall and defense) and showing great character and cohesion even in the very tight end of the second period. In fact, in the middle fraction the two teams fought point to point for a long time; Trento proved to be able to suffer and resist, repelling several times the opponents’ escape attempts until 23-23. In the advantages, Louati’s double error at the net opened the door to the round success of the tricolors, who on high ball could count on the 44 points scored by the trio Lavia (mvp with 56% in attack), Rychlicki and Michieletto, decisive in the important moments of each set. Rzesow confirmed itself as a city favorable to the Gialloblù colors even in this circumstance: today’s was the fifth success in as many official matches played at the RCWS Podpromie.

Match report. Trentino Itas took the court at the RCWS Podpromie with Sbertoli at setter, Rychlicki opposite, Michieletto and Lavia in place 4, Kozamernik and Podrascanin at center Laurenzano libero. Asseco Resovia has to do without American Defalco (out at the end due to injury) and responds with Drzyzga at set, Boyer opposite, Louati and Cebulj setters, Kochanowski and Klos center, Zatorski libero. The start of the match è very balanced; to find the first double advantage we have to wait for a spurt of Michieletto, who tackles Cebulj for the 11-9 and then puts down the reconstructed shot that is worth the 13-10, a situation that advises Medei (Italian coach of the locals) to interrupt the game. On resumption, however, è it was still Trento that was the big voice at break point, again with Alessandro but also Lavia (13-10, 15-11, 18-13 and 20-14) scoring from all parts of the court. The final phase of the set è in absolute control of the gialloblù, who suffer a bit’ only the verve of the opponents’ place 4 (20-23), but still find the ball changes at the right time to close the matter on 25-21.

Trentino Itas tried to run away immediately in the second partial as well, thanks to two consecutive aces by Michieletto (6-3), but this time the hosts soon regained the disadvantage and with Boyer tied the score at 8. Asseco began to believe and get break point opportunities more frequently; è the French opposite player hoisted his team to a double lead (13-15). Michieletto (pipe and wall) ties the score at 18, but then it is Cebulj who scores the new +2 (19-21). Trento didn’t give up, tied the score with Rychlicki at 23, cancelled a set ball for the opponents and took advantage of two consecutive errors by Louati to take an outside 2-0 lead already at 26-24.

On the wave of enthusiasm for the positive conclusion of the previous partial, the Champions of Italy start very well also in the third period (5-1), dragged by the increasingly efficient high ball trio. Boyer tries to recompose the tear until 8-6, but then Trento takes the reins of the game firmly again with Lavia and Ryclicki (14-10 and 18-12). The 3-0 lead already arrives on 25-20 with another hand out by Daniele Lavia, eventually mvp of the match.

“Just a few days after the match with Modena we were, in fact, faced with the same crossroads, after a well won first set and a very hard-fought second set – commented Trentino Itas Fabio Soli coach at the end of the match on Polish soil – . This time compared to PalaPanini there’è was a different focus, which allowed us to win that second partial and channel the match well for the next fraction. È a very important result, which allows us to keep the first place in the standings and to look now to the second round with more confidence, being able to play at home two of the three matches that are still missing to the end of Pool B. A big applause, therefore, to the team, which has been able to pull together and exalt the things it does well even in times of difficulty.

The next engagement in 2023 CEV Champions League will be played on December 21 in Trento against Tours Vb and will be valid as the first round of the return round; before then the gialloblù will take the court on Sunday, December 17 at 3:45 p.m. always at the ilT quotidiano Arena in Trento for the big match of the tenth round of SuperLega, to be played against Perugia.

Monza, Alessandro Nesta and the special derby with Como

So Alessandro Nesta, Monza coach, on the eve of the match against Como: “It’s an important match for us because it’s been a difficult season, we’ve been missing something. Winning a derby can help put a piece to the season, it would be important, we hope to do well.”

Facing us will be mister Cesc Fabregas who in the conference spoke of a Monza that was difficult to beat and that, net of the standings, put many teams in trouble: “I return the esteem because he plays great soccer, his idea has been seen throughout the championship. I have to congratulate him”.

The derby against the Larians will be the first ever in Serie A at the’U-Power Stadium: “I hope tomorrow will be anyone&#8217s day, anyone who wants to do their best to make history. If you win 1-0, 30 years from now we will remember that derby won because of a player. It&#8217s an opportunity to stay in the history of this club. I would rather win the derby than finish second to last. You are always relegated, but if you win the derby you stay in history”.

Nesta recovers, at least for the bench, Luca Caldirola, Andrea Carboni and Stefano Sensi. “What I try to convey to the players are the difficulties I had. I had surgery 10 times and stopped at 38. All players have difficulties, but it matters how you react to difficulties. It&#8217s easy to tell that I won the Champions League or that I won the World Cup, but you also have to tell that I lost a derby 5-1 and that I left the Olimpico in a helicopter. If you are given up for dead, you have to bring out the fire in you. Would I reconfirm myself next season? No, given the results”.

“The track conditions were great, I was fine, and if I went back I would do everything the same again….trying, however, not to fall!” added Federica finding the strength to joke.
