It only takes one goal for Atalanta to beat Verona
Maximum result with minimum effort for Gasperini’s Atalanta, which, with a goal in the first half by the usual Koopmeiners, routs the Bentegodi in Verona. Standings: Atalanta 12, Verona 7. Next round: Atalanta-Juventus (Sunday, Oct. 1, 6 p.m.) Torino-Hellas Verona (Monday, Oct. 2, 6:30 p.m.).
First half. Atalanta immediately forward, crushing the Gialloblù in their three-quarter. On the’other front Bonazzoli, on the throw-in, his pass for the advancing Ngonge goes off in the hands of goalkeeper Carnesecchi. 13’: splendid choral action of Atalanta with ball on the ground, finalized by the’ubiquitous Koopmeiners with a diagonal pass: 0 to 1. Veronese reaction on 18’: “phone call” by Terraciano for the’orobico extreme.
Gasperini’s men control a Verona that fails to make an impact. Terraciano again from outside, ball over the crossbar. Mistake forward for the Hellas that triggers the deadly opponent counterattack but Pasalic under the goal, with Montipò beaten, fails to deflect into the net the possible double, the ball ends clumsily on the bottom. The Scaligeri put their hearts into it but the mistakes in the offensive phase are too many to be able to compete with an’Atalanta that continues to administer.
Second half. Immediately two substitutions in Atalanta: in Hateboer and De Ketelaere. And immediately Hellas dangerous with a close-range shot by Hien, again the ball goes over the upright. Same fate for Duda’s free kick. 12’: Lazovic and Suslov enter in Verona. After 60 minutes of play no saves for the two goalkeepers. The match drags on without excitement. Serdar in the Verona also entered. Finally on 39’ the first save of the match: Carnesecchi deflects a broadside from outside Suslov into a corner. Two minutes later, space was also given to Montipò who turned away Hateboer’s diagonal shot. Five minutes of stoppage time, Enderson fails to double on a throw-in, the result does not change. All-U.S. semifinal at US Open

The United States dreams, after 21 years (Roddick, 2003), of an American winning the U.S. Open. In the meantime, it enjoys Sinner who, thanks to Zverev è’s knockout; increasingly serene in his comfortable position as world No. 1.
