The Words of La Torre

DT Antonio La Torre drew a balance at the end of the World Championships: “Now the road to Paris è a bit’ clearer. We did not lose ourselves in any of the three events, we come out on our feet even from Budapest”.

“After the Budapest relay we leave with the certification that Jacobs will defend his 100-meter Olympic title with teeth. It was also the team that brought back the inspiration to the never-lost talent of Marcell and Filippo Tortu, authentic promoter of this group that has a compactness of steel. Tortu’s last fraction told us that the thought of seeing him in the finals in the 200 meters was not far-fetched; in the video analysis we see that he does not lose to Lyles. There cannot è be a fraction thrown at this level if you è not a world-class sprinter in the 200 meters. His è a puzzle that we will have to solve”.

“In general, Di Mulo’s method is beginning to set the standard: think, for example, of the 4×100 differentials between the sum of seasonal records and relay times, greater than three seconds, which are not children of chance. They tried to take him away from us, there’d been an offer from Japan, but he said no, and these are the values I claim of our work. Now I have given him a new challenge, a’another 38-second Italy for the Bahamas World Relays without Jacobs and Tortu…”

“With the president I have already started talking about Los Angeles 2028 and even Brisbane 2032. È from these favorable situations that we start planning for the future, there had never been a public call for proposals to select 100 technicians. We can look to the future thanks to young people: Mattia Furlani learned so much here, think of how Larissa Iapichino had done last year. For 2024 there could be double programming for Rome and Paris, like this year for the European Cup and World Cup, and the team for the Europeans will not be the’exact photocopy of the one for the Olympics”.
