Italvolley, in Monza the goal is to make an encore performance

Italvolley in Monza
Everything is ready in Monza for the return to the court of the Azzurri. Tomorrow at 9 p.m. (live on TV on Rai 2, Rai Sport and Sky Sport Summer) Italy will face Switzerland in the challenge valid for the third day of Pool B of the Women’s European Championship 2023. After the success in the opener against Romania, captain Sylla and her teammates will go in search of the second consecutive victory against a Switzerland, in turn, just back from a tiebreak loss to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Meanwhile, anticipation is growing in Monza for the first of the Azzurri’s two challenges in Brianza with an Arena that promises to be ready to party.
Davide Mazzanti is pumped up: “The match in Verona was different from all the others because for the first time we were the setting for something extraordinary,” began Davide Mazzanti. “It was exciting, a show within a show that we will carry in our memories and I am happy that all the girls took the court to enjoy that show. Now we go back to playing in a usual environment, two consecutive matches to manage also from a physical point of view. I think my assessment about what we are and will have to do will start with tomorrow’s game with Switzerland.”
Alessia Orro echoed him, “It was a magical evening in Verona,” said the Italian setter, “We had been told that sports were forbidden inside and that the last sporting event held there was a volleyball match 35 years ago. It was something historic that one day I will be able to tell my grandchildren about because I can say that I took part in something really crazy. Starting tomorrow we will play in Monza which is kind of my home since I have been here for 4 years. I am so happy to take the field with the national team jersey right here. Now, however, we have to study our opponents well although more generally I can say that we will have to be focused above all on expressing our game to the best of our ability. The goal now is to grow step by step to find, toward the end, the right balance to put our full potential on the court.”

Trapani Shark leads the way, Jasmin Repesa reveals the secret
Jasmin Repesa, coach of the Trapani Shark, gave a lengthy interview to ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’. “I came here to challenge myself, because there was a very young, very ambitious project – he began -. A city that likes basketball, a president who provided an important budget, and a fan base that made us feel their support right away. And the team has responded well on the court. I am satisfied with what we have done so far”.
The newly promoted Granata are currently first in the LBA standings, along with Brescia and Virtus Bologna: “I never thought that far ahead. But I was confident. I am convinced that there is everything, or almost everything, to be very competitive, we have proven it. We are a team that can play good basketball, and we have become one of the most entertaining. People want to see basketball like we are playing”.
“Team success comes first – added the Croatian coach. “We have embraced this philosophy from day one, with so many players who have been real stars in the past at different clubs. It is the only way if we want to be really competitive”.
“There are six games left and the playoffs will be another competition. Surprises can always happen, it depends on a thousand factors: how you get there, whether you have luck or bad luck, whether there are injuries or not. We just have to keep improving and growing. In the season finale we have strong opponents waiting for us, with much more experience, much more tradition, but certainly not hungrier than us. Our advantage is having so many players who have made themselves available for the common result. This is our strength” Repesa concluded.
