Federica Brignone in Cervinia

First round of the new season on snow for Federica Brignone in Cervinia. After long weeks spent intensifying her athletic preparation, the Valle d’Aosta native has been summoned by technical director Gianluca Rulfi for five days of training on the glacier that will begin on Monday, July 24, and end on Friday, July 28, together with coach Davide Brignone. The combined world champion will cross paths with Marta Bassino, who had instead done a few laps in recent weeks. The super-giant world champion will be in Val d’Aosta from Wednesday, July 26 to Saturday, July 29 with Daniele Simoncelli.

In the resort that will host the men’s and women’s World Cup Speed Opening on two different weekends in November, almost the entire men’s giant slalom team will be present from Wednesday, July 26 to Saturday, July 29, with Filippo Della Vite, Giovanni Borsotti, Giovanni Franzoni and Hannes Zingerle (Luca De Aliprandini absent with justification), followed by technical director Max Carca, head coach Peter Fill and athletic trainer Davide Marchetti.

Instead, in Livigno (So) the speed specialists will try their hand for an athletic meeting from Monday, July 24 to Saturday, July 29 with Mattia Casse, Nicolò Molteni, Florian Schieder, Benjamin Alliod, Pietro Zazzi and Guglielmo Bosca with resposnable coach Lorenzo galli and trainer Davide Verga.

Sofia Goggia, class of 1992, was born in Bergamo and has a personal bulletin board that can make anyone envious. In fact, she was a gold medalist in the downhill in the 2018 edition of the Olympics staged in Pyeongchang, South Korea, but she can also boast three downhill World Cups and two medals won at the World Championships: a bronze in the giant slalom in Sankt Moritz in 2017 and a silver, in the super-giant, in Are, Sweden, two years later. Her best finish in the overall World Cup standings is the third place she recorded in 2017.

All-U.S. semifinal at US Open

Another big man exits the tournament. After the various Alcaraz and Djokovic, Zverev è is also no longer in the running at the US Open. The German è was beaten by Fritz in four sets (7-6 (2) 3-6 6-4 7-6), at the end of a match that è lasted almost three and a half hours. A defeat that leaves a lot of bitterness in Zverev’s mouth. The German was aiming to reach at least the final.

A feat for the American who, dragged by the home crowd, won the first semifinal of a Slam event. After winning the first set on tie-break, Fritz suffered the return of Zverev, who took home the second partial with a peremptory 6-3. The momentum seemed to be in the German’s hands but Fritz escaped on 3-0. Zverev recovers but gives up at the più beautiful. Spectacular fourth set. Zverev tries everything but, once again, the tie-break costs him dearly. He loses it 7-3 and says goodbye to the tournament.

Dreams big for Fritz who, in the semifinals, will face the other American Tiafoe who, in the quarterfinals, wins the match with Dimitrov, forced to retire in the fourth set due to a physical problem: 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, 4-1 the partials in favor of Tiafoe.

The United States dreams, after 21 years (Roddick, 2003), of an American winning the U.S. Open. In the meantime, it enjoys Sinner who, thanks to Zverev &egrave’s knockout; increasingly serene in his comfortable position as world No. 1.
