Tijjani Reijnders, first words as a rossonero

Milan’s next reinforcement, Tijjani Reijnders, landed at Linate airport late Monday evening. The Dutchman will undergo medical examinations on Tuesday morning on behalf of the Rossoneri club, following which he will then be able to sign the contract and begin his new sporting adventure in the Italian league.

Interviewed by reporters from ‘Milan News,’ the midfielder who will turn 25 on July 29 explained his decision to say yes to Milan: “I accepted at the first call, it was an easy decision. I did it because my dream is to win the Champions League and the Scudetto here.”

Reijnders, class of 1998, is named Tijjani in honor of Tijjani Babangida, an explosive Nigerian winger of the 1990s-2000s, with the pinnacle of his career experienced at Ajax. Milan’s new midfielder is one of the reinforcements wanted by American ownership and joins Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Luka Romero, and Christian Pulisic.

Before arriving at AC Milan, Reijnders played professionally with the shirts of PEC Zwolle (his hometown team), RKC Waalwijk and AZ Alkmaar. With the ‘Kaasboeren’ he played five and a half seasons, first as part of the ‘Jong’ team and then in the main lineup playing in the Eredivisie.

The agreement with the Alkmaar club, which initially had been reluctant before proceeding with the negotiation, had come in recent days: outright transfer, in exchange for 20 million euros plus another 5 million that will come upon the achievement of precise goals to be reached during the course of the season.

Us Open: ok Matteo Arnaldi, Fabio Fognini eliminated

Everything was easy for Matteo Arnaldi, the 30th seed in the draw, in the first round of the Us Open. The Sanremese player, in fact, won in three sets with Zachary Svajda, number 102 in the ATP ranking, with the final score of 6-3 6-2 6-1 after an hour and three quarters of play.

After a balanced first set, decided only by a break in the eighth game, Arnaldi ramped up in the second and third halves, leaving only three games to his opponent. The Italian in the next round will face Russian Roman Safiullin, who defeated American Matthew Forbes in three sets.

No dice, however, for Fabio Fognini, who must already leave Flushing Meadows. In fact, the Taggiasco player had to surrender to Tomas Machac, number 39 in the world rankings, who won in three sets with the final score of 7-5 6-1 6-3 after one hour and three quarters of play.

Jannik Sinner-Mackenzie McDonald 2-6 6-2 6-1 6-2

Jannik Sinner’s journey to the Us Open begins on the right foot. After an uphill start, the world number one rediscovered himself and beat Mackenzie McDonald, world number 140, in four sets in the first round of the U.S. major, with a final score of 2-6 6-2 6-1 6-2 after 2 hours and 24 minutes of play.

The challenge starts badly for the South Tyrolean who surrenders the serve in the opening game. McDonald confirms the lead (2-0), Sinner immediately recovers (2-2) but then loses four consecutive games, with the U.S. cashing in the first partial 6-2 in the presence of a rather unrecognizable Italian.

Sinner gets off to a bad start in the second set as well, suffering the break in the opening with no less than two double faults. Here forò comes the reaction of the leader of the seeding who threads four consecutive games and closes for 6-2 the second partial, putting the set count back on a par.

From that moment on, the South Tyrolean put the arrow in his hands. The blue, in fact, overturned the initial disadvantage and went ahead by a set, dominating the third partial, which he won 6-1 after only 25 minutes. The fourth set was also without history, in which Sinner flew up 4-0 in a flash and then closed 6-2.

Sinner thus advances to the second round of the Us Open where he will find another American: Alex Michelsen, who defeated Eliot Spizzirri (6-1 7-5 6-3) in three sets.
