Enduro, near tragedy
Yet another regrettable episode to the detriment of an enduro rider. On Saturday, July 8, Daniele Cirrincione (Sporting Director of the Abbiate Guazzone Moto Club) was making a reconnaissance of the route affected by the Lombardy Enduro Regional Championship race to be held on October 8 starting in Tradate (VA).
While riding on a dirt road inside a forest adjacent to Provincial Road 66 in the locality of Venegono Inferiore, Cirrincione was suddenly unseated from his bike after being blocked by a sliding steel loop with a sling loop that immobilized his neck to the bike’s handlebars. Thanks to low speed and the timely intervention of friends, Cirrincione was stunned but did not completely lose consciousness. The Sports Director suffered a deep neck injury, but had he been alone the consequences could have been tragic.
It should be noted that the Municipality of Venegono Inferiore gave permission for the competition to be held on its territory. Further regret is given by the fact that the enduro riders were clearing the forest of garbage to allow the passage of competitors during the event.
“I am appalled by what happened to Daniele Cirrincione, to whom my heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery go out,” said Giovanni Copioli, FMI president. It is not acceptable that during a motorcycle outing one risks his life in this way. Placing any obstacle, even a trap for poaching purposes, on a path where pedestrians, bikes and motorcycles can pass is criminal behavior. It is necessary to continue working to make it clear that the enduro rider is an asset to the area: he protects it by picking up litter, restoring race routes, and maintaining the greenery. But that’s not all: motorcyclists are fundamental in rescue actions for people in the most inaccessible areas or in Forest Firefighting. All these activities are recognized, even through Memoranda of Understanding, by Local Authorities and Law Enforcement Agencies, which repeatedly request our cooperation.”

Jorge Martin can finally make his debut on’Aprilia and in the MotoGP World Championship after missing the first races due to injury. Doctors have given the go-ahead for his return to the track, ruling him fit to compete in practice and the Qatar Grand Prix.
The reigning world champion will take to the track Friday on the No. 1 Aprilia for the first time in an official test since the disastrous crashes that caused him some fractures in winter testing and in training.
Martin’s goal is to adapt as soon as possible to the new bike in order to have his say over the course of the season, although the train for the World Championship seems to have now departed, given the current pace and superiority of the Ducatis and in particular Marc Marquez, Pecco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez.
Martin won the 2024 World Championship with the Ducati’s satellite Pramac team bike, bending Bagnaia.
