Noah Lyles has a record
At the Racers Grand Prix (World Athletics Continental Tour Silver) in Kingston, 200-meter bi-champion Noah Lyles recorded a world record 2023 performance of 19,67, beating European champion Zharnel Houghton, who was himself at the European seasonal record for 2014.
Lyles’ performance in Jamaica (in near-zero wind) is important, as it represents the 33rd time the American has run under 20 seconds. Gainesville sprinter Lyles is close to breaking the record for most sub-20s. He will first match Usain Bolt’s 34 times, before surpassing him, as expected.
Behind Lyles, there are Kenneth Bednarek (16-times under 20.00), Andre De Grasse, and Erriyon knighton (11) who, at 18, can legitimately aim to bring everyone into agreement within a period of five years.
