Italvolley wins first tie-break in VNL
Italy-Thailand 3-2
The Women’s Volleyball Nations League 2023 in Italy has opened with a great success.
In the first match of Pool 1 at VNL, the Azzurri beat Thailand 3-2 in Antalya after a marathon of 2 1/2 hours (24-26, 25-17, 27-29 3028 15-11).
Loveth Omoruyi was on par with Sylvia Nwakalor, who played a decisive match in the fourth set.
“We missed some crucial chances in the match,” said Italian coach Davide Mazzanti. “Then, in the tiebreak, the match plan objectively blew up, and the character of this group came out.” I knew it would not be an easy match, because playing against Thailand can never be easy. It was also our first official match. I hoped that we would not be able to win the match because of the missed chances. With a lot desire and determination, the match went well. We are not physically strong, but that’s normal for this period. We paid for the long action but it was all part of the plan. They are really good at stretching out the exchanges and exalting themselves during the break phase. Today, we made so many mistakes. We must recover quickly, and we need to add something new to our daily goals. This pool will be crucial to refine our ideas and game.”
